PowerDNS Web UI is a small Go application that serves a browser interface for PowerDNS Authoritative Server and proxies requests to the built-in PowerDNS HTTP API. It is built for operators who want a direct, lightweight control panel for DNS zones without exposing the PowerDNS API key to the browser.

What you can manage

  • Authoritative zones: list, create, edit, delete, notify slaves, and export zone files
  • DNS records: A, AAAA, ALIAS, CAA, CNAME, MX, NS, PTR, SOA, SRV, and TXT
  • Multi-value RRsets for records such as A, AAAA, NS, and TXT
  • Slave zones, including AXFR retrieval from the configured master
  • Zone metadata such as ALLOW-AXFR-FROM, AXFR-SOURCE, SOA-EDIT, and SOA-EDIT-API
  • Autoprimaries for automatic secondary zone provisioning

How it works

The browser talks only to PowerDNS Web UI. The Go backend adds the configured X-API-Key header and forwards requests to PowerDNS.
The PowerDNS API key stays on the server.

Important security model

PowerDNS Web UI does not provide its own authentication or authorization. Run it behind controls you trust: a private network, VPN, firewall rules, or a reverse proxy with authentication. Do not expose it directly to the public internet unless you enjoy giving strangers administrative DNS buttons. A bold strategy, but not a good one.
